4-H is a unique educational program for boys and girls ages 5-18 years of age. It encourages diverse groups of youth to develop their skills and talents to the fullest. As 4-Hers, youth actively participate in activities, events, competitions, and projects that develop and strengthen life skills. 4-H is open to all youth in Hillsborough County. Who administers the 4-H program?
Hillsborough County 4-H is the youth education program of the University of Florida Cooperative Extension Service, USDA, and Hillsborough County Government.
What is the cost to join 4-H?
There is no registration fee to join the 4-H program. Each club may establish dues to help purchase club materials and support club events. Limited medical insurance is available for the cost of $1 per member/volunteer or $2 per member/volunteer enrolled in the horse project.
What opportunities are available for 4-H members?
There are many different programs and opportunities that the 4-H program provides including day camps, residential camps, eligibility for some fair contests, leadership opportunities, judging teams, contests, scholarships, volunteering, and working with youth and adults throughout the county.

4-H projects offer learning experiences in many different subject areas for young people. More than 45 project areas are currently available in Florida. The projects that have the top 10 enrollments are: Wildlife, Horse, Child Care, Photography, Public Speaking, Citizenship, Leadership, Recreation, Clothing, and Consumer Education. The National 4-H Cooperative Curriculum System offers color 4-H project books available for purchase as well.
